ASP.Net Core sidecar logging in Kubernetes with Fluentd problem

4/8/2021

I have a K8s deployment that deploys an app's container (an ASP.Net Core application) along its sidecar for logging. I use Serilog's Console sink in order to log in the stdout. I also have a Config Map in order to store the fluentd's configuration. A very nice article about this part is this.

What I'm trying to do is to use the sidecar to forward the logs from the app to Elastic Search. I use the respective output plugin in order to do that. But what should use in source and filter tags in order to achieve that?

The fluentd's configuration is the following:

      <source>
        @type forward
        port 24224
        bind 0.0.0.0
      </source>

      <filter *.**="">
        @type parser
        key_name log
        format json
        reserve_data true
      </filter>

      <match *.**="">
        @type copy
        <store>
        @type elasticsearch
        host 192.168.1.41
        port 9200
        logstash_format true
        logstash_prefix fluentd
        logstash_dateformat %Y%m%d
        include_tag_key true
        user elastic
        index_name "ap-*"
        password xxxxxxxxx
        type_name access_log
        tag_key @log_name
        flush_interval 1s
        </store>
        <store>
        @type stdout
        </store>
      </match>

Using this configuration, fluentd is working but I don't get any messages forwarded to Elastic Search.

Here are the logs of fluentd

I've made numerous attempts, with various configuration but nothing worked.

Thanks in advance for your time.
